Five Porsche 964 Models Produced in Less than 100 Units

The Porsche 964 series is a favorite among car enthusiasts, especially for its rare models. Below, we explore five unique 964 variants produced in extremely limited quantities, making them highly coveted by collectors.

Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Lightweight: 22 Units

Introduced in 1990, the Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Lightweight was born out of a need for a competitive edge in motorsports. Engineer Jürgen Barth designed this model to be a stripped-down version of the Carrera 4, featuring black headlight rings, plexiglass side windows, and a specific spoiler. Weighing just 1105 kg, compared to the standard Carrera 4’s 1450 kg, it boasts an optimised M64/C4L engine delivering 265 hp. The most notable feature is its adjustable four-wheel-drive transmission, derived from the Paris-Dakar-winning 953.

Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau: 86 Units

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1992, the 964 Turbo S Leichtbau was a handmade marvel by Porsche's Exclusive department, celebrating the IMSA championship victories. This model stood out with rear air intakes for brake cooling, a body-colored spoiler, and lightweight fiberglass components. Its M30/69SL engine, an upgraded version of the 964 Turbo 3.3, delivered 381 hp. With a reduced ground clearance and 18-inch Speedline wheels, the Turbo S Leichtbau was a track-focused machine.

Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8: 90 Units

To homologate the 911 RSR for racing, Porsche created the Carrera RS 3.8 in 1993, a car designed for Europe with only 90 units produced. This model featured the Turbo’s wide track, adjustable bi-plane rear wing, and extensive weight-saving measures, including aluminum and fiberglass components. The RS 3.8’s engine produced 300 hp, coupled with a five-speed gearbox. Its braking system borrowed parts from the Turbo S Leichtbau and Carrera Cup, ensuring top-tier performance.

Porsche 964 Speedster Turbo Look: Estimated 15 Units

The rarest of the lot, the 964 Speedster Turbo Look, saw an estimated production of just 15 units. Introduced in 1992, it was a special request to Porsche’s Exclusive department, as the standard Speedster did not feature the popular Turbo Look body. This variant included wider fenders, a low-profile windshield, and the characteristic double-hump rear cover. Powered by the 964 Carrera 2’s 250 hp engine, it was a blend of style and performance, with unique 17 or 18-inch wheels.

Porsche 964 Turbo S "Slant Nose": 76 Units

In 1993, Porsche launched the Turbo S "Slant Nose", based on the 911 Turbo 3.6. This model was distinguished by its 968-inspired flat front fenders and Exclusive front spoiler. With 385 hp from an enhanced 3.6-liter turbo engine, it featured a unique intercooler setup and a bespoke exhaust system. The production was limited to 76 units, including 17 with standard 911 front fenders, known as the “Slant Nose Delete”.

These limited-production models highlight the innovation and exclusivity that Porsche brings to its 911 series, making each a treasured piece of automotive history.
